June Garden Update

This year is going much better than previous years. Most of the plants have been growing well and looking very healthy. Last weekend I harvested beets, carrots and parsnips. The actual root was very underwhelming size-wise, but cooked they were very good. I am not sure if it was a light issue or the fact that I mulched too early and the seedlings were leggy trying to get through the pine straw.

I have some seedlings going now that I will transplant to test if the mulch was the problem. I will also put them in some other beds to see if the light was the issue.

The pear tomatoes are going absolutely crazy. They are about 7 feet tall now and just beginning to ripen fruit. I hope this means we will be able to can some pasta sauce and just the tomatoes themselves for other recipes.
